A tragic and deeply unsettling case has emerged from Wichita, Kansas, where a former television news anchor now stands accused of murdering her own mother. Authorities say Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing and killing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, inside their family home on Halloween morning.
According to a media release shared by the Sedgwick County Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 8500 block of East Ponderosa at around 7:52 a.m. on Friday, October 31, after receiving a report of a “cutting.” When they arrived, police found Mock standing outside the house with what investigators later described as “undisclosed injuries.” Inside, officers discovered a horrifying scene — her mother, Anita Avers, lying unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds.
Emergency responders immediately transported Avers to a local hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead later that morning. Police detained Mock at the scene, and after receiving treatment for her injuries, she was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail and charged with murder in the first degree.
According to public records, Mock is being held on a $1 million bond as investigators continue to piece together what led to the violent encounter. Authorities have not released any official motive, and the Sedgwick County Police Department has stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
Mock’s arrest has shocked former colleagues and viewers who remember her from her time as a television journalist in St. Louis. From 2011 to 2015, she served as an anchor and reporter for Fox 2 (KTVI), before leaving the broadcasting industry. Her LinkedIn profile shows that she later transitioned into corporate work, most recently employed by a data management software company.

As of now, details surrounding the alleged attack remain unclear. No court filings have yet revealed whether police believe the incident stemmed from a domestic argument, a mental health crisis, or another underlying issue. Authorities have also not commented on what kind of injuries Mock sustained prior to her arrest, only noting that she was treated before being taken into custody.

Neighbors have described the area as a quiet and peaceful part of Wichita, making the violent crime all the more disturbing. “It’s hard to imagine something like that happening here,” one resident told local media outlets.
The Sedgwick County Police Department has not released further updates, and no date for Mock’s initial court appearance has been made public as of Sunday, November 2.
Once a familiar face delivering daily news stories, Angelynn Mock now finds herself at the center of one — a tragedy that has left an entire community searching for answers, and a daughter accused of ending the life of her own mother.
