Stunt performer Devyn LaBella has filed a lawsuit against actor-director Kevin Costner and the production team behind Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, alleging she was coerced into performing a violent, unscripted rape scene without proper notice or consent. The incident reportedly occurred on May 2, 2023, in Utah, during the film’s production. LaBella, who was doubling for actress Ella Hunt, claims that Hunt refused to perform the scene, leading to LaBella being brought in without being informed of the scene’s nature. The lawsuit asserts that the scene was improvised by Costner, lacked an intimacy coordinator, and was filmed on an open set, violating industry protocols and SAG-AFTRA rules requiring prior notice and consent for such scenes. LaBella alleges that the experience caused her significant emotional trauma and negatively impacted her career. Costner, through his attorney, has denied the allegations, stating that LaBella consented to the scene and later expressed appreciation for the shoot. The case has sparked renewed discussions about safety standards and consent in film productions involving sensitive content.
